The Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) announced that the new eligibility criteria have been applied from 1 Oct 2020, as follows:

  • People who are unemployed and applying for the COVID-19 Support Grant must show that they have tried to find a job or take up training programs; and
  • All applicants must not own more than one property.

The MSF will apply to first-time applicants as well as those seeking a three-month extension of the support measure. As a result of the COVID-19 economic impact, the grant was introduced in May to help Singaporeans and unemployed permanent residents, placed on involuntary no-pay leave or suffered significant income loss. So, the successful applicants will be supported up to S$800 per month for three months.

According to Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat, the scheme will be extended until 31 Dec 2020. Besides, applications for another round of support will open online on 1 Oct 2020.

Moreover, MSF also announced that first-time applicants who meet the current eligibility criteria may continue to apply for the grant until 6 pm on 30 Sep with the following requirements:

  • First, individuals are required to submit documents to show that they have made at least one job application or attended at least one interview in the two months before applying for the grant.
  • Second, applicants also email receipts or screenshots showing applications for SGUnited Skills programs delivered by Continuing Education and Training (CET) Centres, including institutes of higher education. However, individuals who have started their SGUnited Mid – Career Pathways Programme – Company Training or SGUnited Skills courses will not be eligible for the COVID-19 Support Grant.

The purpose of these elements is to ensure that applicants take active steps to improve their employment situation.

The new requirements also include having a gross monthly household income of not more than S$10,000, or gross monthly per capital income of not more than S$3,100.
